FIFA Women's World Cup 1999 Knock Out Stages
Aside from the Russian team, making their first appearance in the finals, the knock-out stages had a familiar look to them. The quarter-finals were played as two double-headers over two days, one on the west coast and the other in the east. The third place match and final were also played as a double header in front of over 90,000 spectators, among them the President of the United States, Bill Clinton. If scores were level after 90 minutes extra-time was played during which the first team to score was declared the winner under the "Golden Goal" rule. Penalties would decide the match should there be no goal in extra time.
